Dream Story Prompts
Is there something you've always wanted to see in a romance novel? Some trope that you can't get enough of? Some relationship quirk that you'd love to see explored? Wish something about one of my books had gone down a slightly different path? Are you one of those folks who were shipping Ghost and Tobias? (You can be honest. I know you guys are out there. It’s okay.)
Whatever it is that your little heart desires, now might be your chance to see it on the page.
So I have this project I've been working on, and while it's not ready for release yet, as a way to build a little interest, I've decided that I'm going to write a fan-prompted flashfic (between 1k and 3k words), and you might just be the fan in question! What do you do?
Pick a trope or scenario (can be explicit or not, angsty or fluffy, whatever), and then pick two characters from one of my books. They don’t have to be from the same novel, they don’t have to be main characters, and it can be a friendship—based moment instead of a romantic one. It won’t be canon, but it will be fun.
Examples might include "shy teenage nerd with a crush gets roped into tutoring the good-looking quarterback—Ghost and Duncan.”
OR
"Enemies forced to share a bed wake up to find they're cuddling—Embry and Mario."
OR
"Arranged royal marriage first meeting—Tobias and Sullivan."
OR
"Established relationship where one partner needs a lot of praise and reassurance to feel comfortable having the dirty sex they fantasize about—Duncan and Sullivan."
OR
“Established relationship where they discuss having kids—Embry and Brogan.”
OR
“In an alternate universe without any Russians at all, they meet as rival hockey players—Church and Miller.”
That sorta thing. Mix and match to your heart’s delight. So how do you submit your dream prompt(s)?
Put it in the comments here, on FB, on Twitter, or in email if you’re shy (sidneybellbooks@gmail.com). Just include a scenario and a pairing. Be as specific as you like. That’s all there is to it. I'll be accepting prompts until March 17th at 11:59 PM.
I reserve the right to pick what I want to work on without any justifiable logic. :D I’m gonna follow my muse on this one.
Also, I’m pretty damn open-minded, generally. I don't mind fetishes, explicit content, or graphic violence, but as in life, context in fiction matters, so I reserve the right to pull any and all prompts down without explanation if they seem creepy or gross to me. Again, feel free to submit via email if you’re worried something crosses the line and you don’t want it on the internet forever. I won’t be a jerk about it, although I might say no.
Then, when my side project goes live, I'll celebrate by posting the winning flashfic. And no, I’m not going to tell anyone who wins until that day.
